Mitacs Globalink Research Award offers senior undergraduate and graduate students at Mitacs full and associate partner universities (TRU is an associate university) the opportunity to participate in 12- to 24-week research projects supervised by professors at accredited universities in the following Mitacs partner countries: Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam.
How it works:
- Students and their home university academic supervisors submit Globalink Research Award applications directly to Mitacs by email.
- Undergraduate students are asked to identify and contact a faculty member in their department who will supervise the research project and assist the intern in developing a research plan in partnership with an academic supervisor at a host institution. For example, this could be a course project supervisor, senior year research project supervisor, a course professor, the undergraduate chair in their home department, etc.
- Approved projects last approximately 12-24 weeks (depending on project requirements).
- Mitacs will award successful applicants up to $5,000 in funding to cover travel and accommodation costs. Funding will be in the form of a research grant to the home university academic supervisor.
The Globalink Research Award cycle begins with the submission of a research project and is complete upon Mitacs receipt of the final report and exit surveys.
Home academic supervisors are responsible for providing prospective Globalink Research Award recipients with preparation, direction and support prior to and during their research project, in conjunction with the policies of their home institution. They must also assume fiduciary responsibility for the research grant (which will be held at their university) and cover expenses related to the project. Mitacs will allow oversight and administration of funds to be performed through alternative arrangements as per the home institution’s policies. Please contact Mitacs to make such arrangements.
Mitacs strives to ensure that Globalink Research Award students have a high-quality research experience with internationally recognized professors who facilitate expanding their knowledge and provide hands-on training in their field of study.
Mitacs is now accepting applications for the 2014 Globalink Research Award
