The Award, created to promote academic collaboration between Canada and the Federal Republic of Germany, is available to be awarded annually to a Canadian scholar in the humanities or social sciences. The Award is presented to honour the scholar’s entire academic record. In addition, the recipient is invited to carry out a research project of his/her choice in Germany, in cooperation with German colleagues. The project duration of, six to twelve months can be divided into several segments. The Award totals €50,000. Supplementary expenditures associated with an invitation to stay in Germany to conduct research (e.g. travel or language courses) are also covered.
Candidates for the Konrad Adenauer Research Award must be nominated by an established scholar at a university or research institution in Canada. Self-nominations cannot be accepted. The nomination must also be supported by an established scholar or scientist in Germany.
